"Rittersteine" (Knightstones) can be found all over the Palatina forest. They are not named after the ancient knights, but after the first president of the "Pfälzer Wald Verein (PWV)" (Palatina Forest Club) K. A. v. Ritter 100 years ago. Today 306 stones are set by the PWV. They are signs for hikers, give informations about ancient villages in the forest, old wood and other industries, battles or honour of people. A complete listing of all stones with a detailed description of every stone can be bought at Pfälzerwald-Verein e.V. A photo of such a "Knightstone" is shown below. |
